Today seems to be new trailer day! Ok, so we all love the 1984 classic The Karate Kid, not so many loved the second or third ones and most people don’t even know a fourth one exists (with Oscar Winning Hilary Swank taking over as “the kid”). But I’m sure a few people will be upset that this is being remade, I wasn’t too concerned, I just figured I wouldn’t watch it to be honest.
However -- the trailer has actually caught my interest! I had heard that it’s more of an “inspired by” or reimaging than a flat out remake and the trailer seems to confirm that. The film stars Jaden Smith (son of Fresh Prince Will Smith) as a kid called Dre and taking over as teacher is Jackie Chan, who’s character is now called Mr Han.
What I do like about the trailer is Chan seems to be playing it straight, rather than the slap-stick dickhead he usually does.
