The rape of all our childhoods continues – Dimension Films have announced Steve Carr (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) will be directing a remake of Short Circuit. The original 1986 film, which starred Steve Guttenburg and Ally Sheedy, centred around an escaped military robot named Number 5 after he develops a conscience from being hit by a bolt of lightning, it spawned a sequel two years later without the two original stars.
Producer David Foster has said that the remake, which is being written by Dan Milano, will “bring Number 5 into the 21st Century” – so presumably that means a CG Johnny 5 with built in iPod, Sat Nav and touch screen display!
The remake is set for release in 2011.
