“Sigh”, all week I’ve been reading on various websites the story about Robin Williams wanting to play The Riddler in Chris Nolan’s Batman 3. Well, yeah, of course he would – who wouldn’t? The film is gonna be huge and pull in enough money for some of the actors to retire on.

What annoys me a little is that this has all stemmed from an article in the last edition of Empire magazine. Empire ran a feature on Chris Nolan (for the release of Inception) which looked at all of his films, with interviews with some of the stars and various crew members. The article spans several pages (as you can imagine) and is a very interesting and entertaining read. Towards the end of the interview with Robin Williams (who starred opposite Pachino in the underrated Insomnia) explains his desire to work with Nolan again:

“I would work with Chris again in a second, playing anyone in anything. I’d play The Riddler in the next Batman, although it’d be hard to top Heath as the villain, and I’m a little hairy for tights. Plus, the Batman films have screwed me twice before years ago they offered me The Joker and then gave it to Jack Nicholson, then they offered me The Riddler and gave it to Jim Carrey. I’d be like, “Okay, is this a real offer? If it is, then the answer’s yes. Don’t pump me again, motherfuckers.”

I’m using this article as an ad. Chris, call me, I’ll do anything. I could be a great character – or some weird little man in the background in Arkham Asylum.”

So there you go, that’s where all this talk has come from. Would Nolan cast Williams as The Riddler? Well, as I’ve said before on this site Nolan does like to work with the same people so I suppose it’s not beyond the realms of actuality. Does the world want to see Robin Williams as The Riddler? Hmmm, not sure about that one. The guy just can’t help titting about, not something I wanna see in Nolan’s Batman.

What do you guys think?

Ha, ha, ha yeah man, you not heard that term before? I just mean acting the goat. Being a dick. Just being Robin Williams.  (Quote)

    He’d make a great riddler.
His performance in Insomnia was excellant. His quirkyness gave him that psychotic edge and the riddler should have a health dose of that.  (Quote)

What about One Hour Photo, that film is genuinely scary due to his psychotic nature.

I’m all for it, I didn’t rate Heath Ledger and I’m sure critically acclaim would have been less forthcoming if it wasn’t for his tragic death.  (Quote)

I wouldn’t mind that he plays a role in the new Batman movie. I mean, his acting performance in all his serious movies have been great. It’s just like Jim carrey in Number 23 that your not used to see those two in serious roles. And they can both give a character something more.  (Quote)

  6. I got drunk on Saturday after watching Inception, then spent an hour sobbing because I thought Robin Williams might be the Riddler. I think it’s the worst choice ever, and I like Robin Williams.

My money is Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the Riddler.  (Quote)

Robin Williams might be interesting as The Riddler he’s proven he can act seriously. Joseph Gordon Levitt is another good choice (I’ve already posted my ideal choice would be Tom Hardy or Sam Rockwell), I think it all depends on which way Nolan goes with the Riddler character (hopefully as far away from Jim Carrey’s attempt in Batman Forever although to be fair that movie was awful anyway….

Never bring Robin into a Batman movie again  (Quote)
